Hi @Neha1234,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Envy 13 laptop might be experiencing a combination of software and hardware issues. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem.
Check for External Devices
- If you have any external devices connected (like a mouse or keyboard), disconnect them to see if they're causing the issue. Sometimes, faulty peripherals can trigger these kinds of problems.
Perform a Clean Restart
- Restart your laptop without any external devices connected to see if it behaves normally. You can perform a clean boot by:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Startup tab, and disable any unnecessary programs from starting up.
- Restart the laptop.
Update Drivers
- Touchpad drivers: Go to the Device Manager, find the touchpad, and update the drivers.
- Keyboard drivers: Similarly, update the drivers for the keyboard.
- Visit the HP website and check for any available system updates, especially for BIOS, touchpad, and keyboard.
Run a Malware Scan
- Malware or viruses can cause erratic behavior like random scrolling, typing, or changes in system behavior. Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or any reputable antivirus software you have installed.
Check for Sticky Keys or Accessibility Features
- Go to Settings > Ease of Access and check if any accessibility features like Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, or Scroll Lock are enabled. Disable them if they are.
Test the Laptop in Safe Mode
- Boot into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If it works fine in Safe Mode, it could be a software or driver issue.
- To boot into Safe Mode:
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Boot tab, check the Safe Boot option, and restart your laptop.
- To boot into Safe Mode:

Check Touchpad and Keyboard Settings
- If the touchpad is overly sensitive or malfunctioning, try adjusting the settings:
- Touchpad Settings: Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and reduce the sensitivity.
- Keyboard Settings: Check if any custom shortcuts or functions are enabled.
Check for Hardware Issues
- If none of the above steps work, it might be a hardware issue like a faulty touchpad, keyboard, or internal component.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
