My laptop does not turn on when I release the power button and does not even charge. When I press the power button, the white light turns on and turns off after a few seconds. This happened before and it was fixed by resetting the battery (with pressing and hold power+ mute button ).
This method does not work now

Hi @MrMC95,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 laptop does not turn on or charge and the power button light turns on briefly before turning off, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the issue:
May I know if you have observed the power light blinking?
1. Perform a Hard Reset
Since resetting the battery worked before, it might still help if done correctly:
- Disconnect the power adapter from the laptop.
- Press and hold the Power button for at least 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
- While holding the Power button, press and hold the Mute button for 15 seconds.
- Release both buttons and then connect the power adapter again.
- Try turning on the laptop.
2. Check the Power Adapter and Cable
Make sure the power adapter and cable are functioning correctly:
- Inspect the power adapter and cable for any physical damage.
- Try using a different power outlet.
- If you have another compatible power adapter, try using it to charge the laptop.
3. Inspect for Physical Damage
Look for any physical signs of damage to the laptop:
- Check the charging port for any debris or damage.
- Inspect the battery for any signs of swelling or damage.
4. Perform a BIOS Reset
Sometimes resetting the BIOS can help:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press and hold the Windows + B keys and then press the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
- Release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows + B keys until the BIOS screen appears or you hear beeping sounds.
5. Remove and Reinsert the Battery (if applicable)
If your laptop has a removable battery, try removing it and reinserting it:
- Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power adapter.
- Remove the battery (refer to the user manual for instructions).
- Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
- Reinsert the battery and connect the power adapter.
- Try turning on the laptop.
6. Check for Hardware Issues
If the above steps do not work, it could be a hardware issue. Consider the following:
- Battery: The battery might be faulty and needs replacement.
- Motherboard: There could be an issue with the motherboard or power circuitry.
- Charging Port: The charging port might be damaged and needs repair

Hey @Gaya1239 , thank you.
By removing the battery and reconnecting it, the problem was solved and the system turned on, but after several times the laptop worked properly and turned it off and on again. It did not turn on again as before (by pressing the power button for a few seconds The power button light turns on and off again and is not charged). From time to time, the problem is solved by removing the memory or removing the battery and replacing them, but after turning off the laptop, the problem reappears.
I use dual boot windows and linux(Arch)
