Product: X9R14EC#ABD
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
During a BIOS update on an HP Elitebook 820 G3, it failed and the BIOS has become corrupted, 2.2 beeps and flashes.
I've downloaded the correct file for it, sp103696.exe and tried to create a recovery usb flash drive on both another HP and Acer laptops, but I keep getting the error message: "The system BIOS file is missing or corrupt. The system BIOS will not be updated".
The only option I then get is to back up the current machine, with the other options greyed out.
I've also tried by running HPBIOSUPDREC64 from within the file, but get the same error message.
The bin file, N75_0147.bin is there but for some reason, is not being recognised by the installer.
I've also downloaded BIOS soft packs for other machines and get the same results, which possibly suggests a problem with the installer?
Any help would be much appreciated

Update
I have now managed to recover the BIOS and got everything working again.
This is what I did.
As the latest version of HPBIOSUPDREC64.exe wasn't working, I searched for an older version and then downloaded it.
The version I found was from 2016.
I put it in a folder with the relevant Bios .bin file and double clicked on it, which started the wizard and gave me the option to create a recovery usb drive.
The official HP advice is then to make sure your device is turned off, plug in the power cable and then the usb flash drive, then press the windows+ B key, then press the power button for 2-3 seconds, then wait until the BIOS recovery screen appears whilst keeping the windows + B buttons depressed.
This did not work. What worked was the advice given by the wizard when it completed the recovery drive creation process.
Basically, plug in the power cable, then the flash drive, power on and let it do its thing. The BIOS recovery screen will appear and it will reboot several times.
The latest version of HPBIOSUPDREC64.exe doesn't seem to be working for some reason and doesn't let you create a recovery drive, just the option to back up the current BIOS. Something for the HP bods to look at methinks.
I don't know if this will work with other HP laptops, but I hope this is of help to anyone with a similar problem.
