My trackpad doesn't work since March, I guess. Can you help this quick?

I'm using the mouse right now, but it is uncomfortable to use without the trackpad. I wish you would help me quick.

@HelpMePlease35,

In this scenario, Where the test has failed this clearly indicates a possible hardware failure.

I would recommend you contact our HP support team for further assistance.

@HelpMePlease35,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Community,

Have you tried checking with an external mouse? Does the issue persist?

Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.

Check if the touchpad is disabled.

On some touch pads, you can turn on or off the touchpad by double tapping in the upper left corner of the touchpad. Double tap to turn the touchpad on, repeat to turn the touchpad off.

Try the steps recommended below.

Try updating the BIOS, touchpad and chipset driver on your PC and check if it helps.

You can try updating other drivers on your PC using the HP support assistant.

Refer this article to know more information about using the HP support assistant. Click Here

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps try the steps recommended below.

  • On Start , search for Device Manager, and select it from the list of results. Under Mice and other pointing devices, select your touchpad, open it, select the Driver tab, and select Update Driver. If Windows doesn't find a new driver, look for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

  • If those steps didn't work, try uninstalling your touchpad driver: open Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) the touchpad driver, and select Uninstall. Restart your device and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

  • If that didn't work, try using the generic driver that comes with Windows. Here's how: in Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) your touchpad driver > Update driver software... Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, select HID compliant mouse, select Next, and follow the instructions to install it.

Refer this article to know more information about using the touchpad. Click Here

Also, try running a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware components on your PC are functioning correctly.

In device manager, I can't find touchpad option in Mice and Other pointing devices.

@HelpMePlease35,

In this scenario, let's try these steps here:

On Start , search for Device Manager, Click on View and then from the drop down select Show hidden devices.

Now check if the Synaptic touchpad drivers are listed under Mice and other pointing devices.

If the touchpad drivers not listed then I would suggest here is to run a test on the touchpad from F2 (Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance).

If the test passes, I would suggest here is to try updating the BIOS, touchpad and chipset driver on your PC and check if it helps.

You can try updating other drivers on your PC using the HP support assistant.

Let me know how it goes!

Cheers 🙂

sorry for keep asking. But I don't understand how to run a test on the touchpad from F2 . Could you help me out with it?

@HelpMePlease35,

I'm glad you pointed out as I might have missed on sending the link.

Here's the link: HP PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures

The test for the touchpad would be under Component test:

Mouse/Touchpad Tests - This consists of two tests, the Pointer Test and the Drag and Drop Test.

To run the tests, click Mouse/Touchpad. Select the test you want to run, and then click Run once. Follow the instructions to complete the test.

Let me know outcome!

Cheers 🙂
