I'm experiencing several problems with my HP laptop. The keyboard is malfunctioning, with letters like "v" and "p" being pressed repeatedly without my touch. This is causing unwanted typing and opening of menus. Additionally, the screen is flickering, and I'm unable to type or access certain clickable elements. I've tried restarting the laptop and disconnecting external devices, but the problems persist.

Hi @gourijoy_18,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the keyboard and screen flickering issues you're experiencing on your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC (15-e2000) may be caused by a few factors, such as hardware malfunctions, driver issues, or even software conflicts.
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
To assist better:
Here are some troubleshooting steps to help identify and resolve the issues:
1. Check for Stuck Keys or Debris
- Inspect the keyboard: Ensure there are no stuck keys or debris under the keys, which could cause the "v" and "p" keys to be pressed repeatedly.
- Gently clean the keyboard using compressed air to remove dust or debris that might be causing the issue.
2. Update Keyboard Drivers
- Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager.
- Expand the Keyboards section, right-click on your keyboard driver, and select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If the issue persists after updating, try uninstalling the keyboard driver and then restarting your computer to reinstall it automatically.
3. Update Graphics Driver (for Screen Flickering)
- In Device Manager, expand the Display Adapters section.
- Right-click your graphics card and select Update Driver.
- Follow the prompts to install any available updates.
Alternatively, go to the HP Support website, enter your laptop model, and download the latest graphics drivers from there.
4. Run Hardware Diagnostics
HP laptops come with built-in diagnostic tools:
- Turn off your laptop, then press the power button to turn it back on. Immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run a Keyboard Test and a System Test to identify any hardware issues with the keyboard and screen.
5. Adjust Power Settings (for Flickering Screen)
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Select Change plan settings next to your current plan.
- Click Change advanced power settings and under Display, adjust the settings to ensure the display doesn’t flicker due to power-saving modes.
6. Check for Malware or Viruses
Sometimes unwanted keystrokes or screen flickering can be caused by malware:
- Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or any third-party antivirus software to check for any malicious software.
7. Test in Safe Mode
This will help determine if a third-party application is causing the problem:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- Under the Boot tab, select Safe Boot, and restart your computer.
- See if the keyboard still behaves erratically or if the screen flickers in Safe Mode. If the issues are gone, a third-party app may be the cause.
8. External Keyboard for Testing
- Connect an external keyboard to your laptop to see if the issue persists. If the external keyboard works fine, the issue is likely with the built-in keyboard, and it may require hardware repair or replacement.
9. Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and ensure that your laptop has the latest updates installed.
10. Check for Physical Damage
If the laptop has experienced any drops or physical damage recently, this might have caused hardware issues that would require repair or replacement of certain components.
