HP will in fact not mount the interface. There is room for the interface on the board itself but they do not attach one.  As such, you cannot install an M.2 drive if it didn't have one already.  I'm quite disappointed in this especially since the board has room for it.  Seems like they could have just mounted the interface anyway, but alas they do not.  Take a look at the attachment.  You can clearly see the place where such a drive could be installed but there isn't an interface attached to the motherboard.  They even omitted the second dimm interface on the ram just above it.
