Thermal Shutdown occured. Update BIOS shutdown again. I opened the back up of my 14-cf2112wm laptop and discovered there is no fan at all. I am not sure why so I investigated and found something called "Cool Sense" but my laptop doesn't have that either. So, now how do I keep my laptop from shutting down after only several minutes.

@Oceanmoon,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The HP 14-cf2112wm can be configured as a passively cooled laptop, meaning some units do not have a cooling fan installed from the factory. So the absence of a fan is not necessarily a sign that a part is missing.

However, the “Thermal Shutdown Occurred” message indicates the CPU is reaching a critical temperature and shutting down to protect itself.

Please try these steps:

  • Update the BIOS from HP's support page for the 14-cf2112wm if you have not already done so.

  • Clean the cooling area with compressed ("canned") air, especially the heatsink vents.

  • Use the laptop on a hard, flat surface (not a bed, couch, or blanket) so airflow is not blocked.

  • Reduce CPU load by closing unnecessary programs and browser tabs.

  • In Windows, go to: Control Panel > Power Options > Change advanced power settings > Processor power management and temporarily set Maximum processor state to 90–95% to reduce heat generation.

  • Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI and perform the thermal test if available.

If your laptop still shuts down within a few minutes after cleaning and updating the BIOS, the heatsink may not be making good contact with the processor, or the thermal paste may have degraded and need replacement.

Kind Regards,
