Hi!
I've read several threads on similar topics but nothing that could help in my case exactly.
I have been getting thermal shutdowns on my laptop (OMEN by HP 15-ax200nw) so I cleaned the vents and put a new thermal compound on the cpu. It helped a little, but still, every now and then I will get a thermal shutdown (90d code on boot) if I put it under a lot of stress.
I'm using the Open Hardware Monitor to check my temperatures and they are never above 80C even under kinda-heavy load. Idle at 40C. Not nearly enough to trigger a thermal shutdown.
To make it weirder, yesterday I shut down my laptop normally, and then turned it on today, only to get a 90d thermal shutdown notification on boot! As in, my laptop was saying - hey, looks like a high temperature closed your system. No it didn't, I did it myself!
Can I diagnose for a faulty sensor? Or is software/bios to blame?
I've checked for updates, but HP site recommends no driver or bios updates to me.
My laptop is kinda old, around 4-5 years at this point.
Thanks a bunch if you can give me any ideas

HI@PeteWo,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is overheating.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I would like to inform you that 90C is normal on the gaming computer. I recommend you use the Omen command center to change the settings which suit your needs.
Please refer to the below article for more information.

Hi again,
1. Your link is dead
2. Omen command centre is not supported on my laptop, mine is the older version of omen. I do have the coolsense enabled though
3. The high temperatures on a gaming laptop are precisely that - entirely normal. They shouldn't be causing my system to go into hibernation. I've just got logged out again because I reached something around 80C

I have so far tried the following:
- moving the laptop to a better ventilated area
- removing the battery and working only off of the power supply
- repasting the cpu/gpu again
- updating my bios
and I've just got another thermal shutdown at around 70C on the CPU, GPU way cooler than that, no other heating on anything, ssd etc.
I'm fairly sure the thermal sensor is busted or the piece of software triggering the thermal shutdown (bios?) is malfunctioning
How do I disable the thermal shutdown?

Hi@PeteWo,
`We have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to checked taking remote access so that get to know it's a hardware or software issue.
I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.
