Pavilion
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Pavilion which has a USB-C port and I got a ThinkPad Dock 2nd Generation, and I am looking forward to use two monitors; I already used that setup with a Lenovo and it worked perfect, but when I connect it to my HP it says that the DisplayPort it is not compatible

What can I do?

HP has thousands of Pavilion  models/products. What is yours ?

Not USB-C ports are the same, you need a right USB-C port on your machine to connect to a USB-C dock.

It is a CTO machine therefore I can't get its specs BUT it should have same ports as the following machine

           HP Pavilion - 15-cs3073cl

It ONLY has 1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine
  • Connect to an external monitor with / without hub/dock/adapter

From there I can say for sure your machine is not compatible with the Thinkpad dock. You MAY get USB ports but won't get video out

I guess there is an adapter to be able to conect the hub to that usc-c port, correct me if I am wrong; if it is possible you have any recommendations for the adapters that will work for it.

You can ONLY use data. If you wish to have 2 or more external monitors (and notebook monitor - total 3) and other things, please enter your requirement on the following link and it will find for you few USB-A DisplayLink Certified options on market today including some HP products (you can select HP before Search)
