@idkline

The Base model has

    (a)  256 GB Intel® SSD + 16 GB Intel® Optane™ memory

    (b)  8 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB)

It has 2 slots of RAM, supports up to 32GB.

For storage it has NVMe M.2 SSD . 256 GB Intel® SSD + 16 GB Intel® Optane™ memory actually is same NVMe drive and it is lighting fast. You can upgrade to normal 1TB NVMe SSD but this will be slower. I believe you can have option 512 GB Intel® SSD + 32 GB Intel® Optane™ memory .

Regards.

I would not trust that answer. I have worked closely with HP support, and i cannot get a consistent answer on if RAM is soldered.

some people said YES, some said NO....

I opened mine up, and it is covered by a shield i could not see how to remove (was not in there to look at RAM.

NOTE this laptop does NOT have a SATA drive slot, it ONLY supports an M.2 Drive... .i know  that wasn't your question, but, Tech support told me definitively that there WAS a drive slot... they were incorrect.

Hi Brandon

How do you find the display on Envy 15 8DX23AV_1?  Is it crisp and bright?

With no SATA in place were you able to add a second NVME SSD drive?

Are you saying the RAM sticks are soldered on?

HP Recommended

RAM is soldered

Display is nice but not very bright.

1 total NVME slot

@Banhien

Could you please confirm if the ram is in fact soldered?

In the end I bought a refurb'ed Dell XPS 9575 off Ebay for $799 and could not have been happier.  I did not want to live with the flimsy construction and iffy quality control on HP products having gone through the nightmare of having a broken hinge literally tearing an 8-month-old Envy 17 apart.  The 400 nit 1080p display by Sharp on the Dell XPS 9575 is simply gorgeous and the XPS runs silent, cool and fast as hell (i5-8305G / 8gb soldered RAM). Bye bye HP.

@Zbrendon , So There is no other memory  slot?

HP Recommended

That is correct

No HDD slot, 1 NVME slot, soldered ram.
