Linux

I recently picked up this HP keyboard and mouse from value village and the keyboard won't pair with my Toshiba laptop running Fedora Linux 42.

The mouse is wired but keyboard is wireless and not Bluetooth and just won't pair.

Could you help me?

@AnakinB, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I can assist you with pairing your HP wireless keyboard. However, please note that HP officially supports its hardware on Windows platforms, and while many devices do work with other operating systems, compatibility might vary for Linux. Here are some general steps you can try to pair your HP wireless keyboard:

Check Receiver: If your keyboard uses a USB receiver (dongle), make sure that it is properly connected to your Toshiba laptop’s USB port. The receiver often has a connect button that needs to be pressed to start the pairing process.

Synchronization Process:

  • Insert the USB receiver into the USB port and wait for the system to recognize it.
  • On the receiver, press the connect button for about five seconds until it starts blinking.
  • Bring the keyboard close to the receiver (preferably within 30 cm or 1 foot).
  • Press and hold the connect button on the keyboard until its LED indicator starts blinking, then release it.

Distance: Ensure your keyboard is within the recommended distance from the USB receiver during the synchronization process.

Switch USB Ports: Try different USB ports on the laptop as some ports may have better connectivity.

Driver Considerations: While Fedora Linux should generally support USB devices, make sure your system's drivers are up-to-date. You can check and update them through your package manager.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

It did not come with a receiver and is there anywhere to buy the receiver? Model is unknown.

Hi @AnakinB,

Thank you for your response

The receivers for HP wireless keyboards are factory-paired to their specific units and are not sold separately. I recommend visiting the nearest HP Service Center for further assistance.

They can provide one-on-one help to fix the problem.

Note: There might be a nominal charge for the service they provide.
