I just added the HP Thunderbolt G4 dock to my laptop, and while it seems to be working fine (USB devices and monitor connect, laptop charges), I can't tell if it's actually running through Thunderbolt. The Intel Thunderbolt Control Center software shows no Thunderbolt devices, and in Windows Device Manager everything appears to be connected through USB. Is there any way to verify that it's actually a Thunderbolt connection?

Do you have the dock connected by way of a port with a thunderbolt (lightning) icon next to it?
That is a thunderbolt port.
I don't quite see the point of your question.
Do you have a need to see if the packets are travelling bidirectionally at a bandwidth at 40 GB/S?
Your laptop may have the updated version of the thunderbolt driver software installed.
The thunderbolt dock may be automatically approved and managed instead of requiring you to approve of the connection every time you plug it in.
I am a firm believer in the use of the K.I.S.S. principle.
I will ask my internal SME contacts what HP does regarding the approval and management of Thunderbolt connections.
Did you get the Thunderbolt Software from Intel?

Thanks for your reply.
There are two USB-C ports on the laptop, which appear to be functionally identical, but don't have the Thunderbolt icon. The device (3Y838AV) specs state, "2 Thunderbolt™ 4 with USB Type-C® 40Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge)."
The Thunderbolt software is from Intel, via the Microsoft Store. So it may not be appropriate for this version of Thunderbolt.
The reason I'd like to know is so that in the future if I attach more and more demanding devices (e.g., additional monitors, more USB devices) it will keep up, which it might not if this is only a USB 3 connection.

The ports are Thunderbolt Gen 4, so enough bandwidth to keep up with anything in the very near future.
