I am typing this right now on my Zbook 15 G3 with that dock and it is attached to 2 x 4k monitors, the lid is closed and the laptop stays on 24/7.
Go into the control panel/power options and just set it to the left to do nothing when the lid is closed. Have you tried that and not working?
