The top left of the keyboard reaches 115 degrees F, and sometimes the screen freezes.

If your HP ENVY x360 15 Convertible PC 15-eu1000 is experiencing heating issues that cause the top left corner of the keyboard to reach 115 degrees Fahrenheit and your screen to freeze, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

 

Steps to Resolve Overheating:

Ventilation and Cooling:

  • Make sure your laptop is placed on a hard, flat surface. Avoid placing it on soft surfaces like beds or couches that can block airflow.
  • Clean the air vents using compressed air to remove any dust or debris.

Power Settings:

  • Adjust your power settings to balance or power saver mode. Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings and select a balanced or power saver plan.
  • Lower the maximum processor state to prevent the CPU from running at full power constantly. You can do this in the advanced power settings under Processor power management.

Update Drivers and BIOS:

Use HP CoolSense:

  • HP CoolSense technology can automatically adjust your notebook's performance and fan settings to keep it cool.
  • Make sure HP CoolSense is enabled. It can be accessed via HP Support Assistant.

Reduce Background Processes:

  • Disable unnecessary startup programs and background processes to reduce the load on your CPU.
  • Use the Task Manager to monitor and end tasks that are consuming high CPU usage.

Monitor Temperature:

  • Use temperature monitoring software to keep an eye on the device's thermal status. Software such as HWMonitor or Core Temp can provide real-time data.

 

Steps to Resolve Freezing:

Run Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your Windows 11 OS is fully updated. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Update Graphics Driver:

  • Frequently, freezing issues are due to outdated or faulty graphics drivers. You can update these via the HP Customer Support page.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan to check for malware or viruses that may be causing the system to freeze. Use Windows Defender or any reputable third-party antivirus software.

Perform a System Reset:

  • If the issue persists, consider performing a system reset to a previous restore point where the system was stable. Go to Settings > System > Recovery > Reset this PC.
