HP Envy 17-n152sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This problem has existed since I purchased the laptop 2 years ago.

I am a touch typist and have had issues with the touch pad.  I can be typing a full document in MS Word or MS Outlook and, without making any contact with the touch pad all of my typing will be highlighted and immediately deleted.

I have tried various settings for the sensitivity of the touch pad, none of them work.  The only solution that does work is to set the touch pad to only work when an external mouse is not connected however this mean that the touch pad cannot be used unless the mouse is disconnected at which point the touch pad reverts to deleting typing.

The touchpad also is highly volatile in that it jumps the cursor all over the screen.

This particular touchpad is not a good recommendation for HP products.  Is there a software setting/solution for this problem?

I have run the HP problems solving software but no change.

Appreciate you trying the steps. Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Let's try these steps -

1) Right click on the start or Windows icon and open the "Device Manager".
2) Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices".
3) Right click on the "Synaptics TouchPad".
4) Click on uninstall and restart the computer.

Download and install the touchpad driver from this link.

Also, try updating the computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Click on this link to run Windows Updates troubleshooter

Step 2 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 3 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
