OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck2000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

After a while, the touchpad becomes unresponsive due to static build-up. Toggling it off and on again with Fn+F11 relieves the issue temporarily. HP touchpads have apparently had lots of problems for a very long time as reported by users, and it looks like this specific issue has been known at least for two years. HP still has not addressed it even with its latest models, including the one that I purchased only a couple of months ago. Other users have found a solution by adding a 5 cent ground wire... I was disappointed that my laptop has this issue but even moreso to find out that it's nothing new and that nothing has been done - there are companies that don't care, and then there are companies that won't add a 5 cent ground wire to fix an issue that's been reported and known about for years. Sheesh.

One end-user found solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/HPOmen/comments/wp7tkh/hp_omen_16_touchpad_issue_guaranteed_fix . It supposedly works also for the Omen 17 but the configuration is just different. I've not opened mine up to try it, but my question is whether adding a wire to ground the touchpad in this manner would void the warranty, and if it would, what then is the HP solution.
