My touchpad stopped working suddenly. I updated the drivers and reistalled them it worked for few days and again stopped working. I changed my touchpad through hp and it worked for few hours and stopped working again. If i reistall and update the driver it will work for few hours and stop abruptly. The hp customer care sent engineers who does not take into account what i say. They do the same reistallation which i do and say it will work now but it will stop working in few hours only. By the time i complaint again and another enginner comes who will do the same thing and leave. It has become highly irritating now to use my laptop always with an external mouse as my line of work requires touchpad. They ask me to run bios which works sometimes and fails randomly. However, if it works during the custumer care call and I insist that it is random that is not considered. They then guided me to reinstall and format the entire OS in an external/local shop. Why should I pay extra and take warranty if I am going to get it repaired outside?? And moreover, engineeris are telling dont update the laptop thats why this problem comes. But whats the point to own a device which cant be updated to the lasest versions? I need a solution for this trouble permanently. i want my touchpad to work robustly or I need a replacement to a better model. I feel my system is a complete defective unit

If your system fails during the UEFI diagnostics then there is a hardware problem and that is covered under warranty.
HP releases newer UEFI diagnostics periodically. When you select F2 during boot you are requesting UEFI diagnostics. There is an updated diagnostics package Click Here Look for the phrase 'issues outside the OS', Expand the'+'symbol and click the DOWNLOAD button. The version of the UEFI diagnostics is shown at the left of that DOWNLOAD button. When you press F2 to run diagnostics please ensure the version is the new one. |
If it works during the UEFI test but fails in windows then the problem could be the driver for your Elan Touchpad or possibly the sleep and power management driver. Another possibility is a problem with windows "Fast Start" but that is also sleep related.
To get the laptop serviced or replaced you need to demonstrate that it fails during UEFI diagnostics (the F2 when booting)
When the touchpad is not working, power down the laptop and do a hard reset.

If the touchpad fails then have it replaced or repaired.
If it passes diagnostics then possibly it is a sleep problem where it doesn't wake up properly. Touchpads go to low power mode when not used but are supposed to wakeup when touched.
Please run the energy report and do the sleep study and try to fix any problems that are reported
