The front edge of my touchpad is bowing upwards a bit rather than lying flush with the keyboard surface (see photo). I do not know how long is has been this way. From a quick search online, I see that the touchpad is above the battery. What should I do to determine if this is a mechanical issue or a battery issue? The computer is about three years old.

Yes the touchpad still works. I called one of the authorized service center stores about the issue and they said that since the touchpad is located above the battery, the bowing upward could be a sign of the battery expanding, which is dangerous. So I have taken the laptop to a computer store to be looked at.
