laptop model 15-bs061st
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After the 20H2 update, my touchpad quit working.   I used HP Support Assistant to scan for BIOS update, but it said my laptop is current.  I suspect they probably haven't released a BIOS update for 20H2 yet.

Meanwhile, in trying to fix this problem I was trying different drivers.  I tried each of the 6 synaptics drivers on the link below, and can't get any of them to work.  The 3 most current -- .

19.5.35.54 (3/16/20)

19.5.35.48  (12/27/19) and

19.5.35.47 (8/26/19)  give me a box saying it is incompatible with my OS.

@Jefals

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Procedure 1: Confirm the Synaptics driver is 19.5.35.41 (or later).

  1. Open Device Manager.

  2. Scroll down and expand Mice and other pointing devices > Synaptics Touchpad.

  3. Right-click on Synaptics Touchpad and select Properties.

  4. Select the Driver tab.

  5. Confirm the Synaptics driver is 19.5.35.41 (or later).

    Synaptics Touchpad in Device Manager.

Procedure 2: If the driver version is not the latest, go to HP Customer Support - Products.

  1. Enter your HP computer product name and model number.

  2. Click Find.

  3. Select Software and Driver Downloads.

  4. Expand Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices.

  5. Download and install the latest Synaptics Touchpad driver (a restart may be required).

Procedure 3: Customize touchpad settings:

  1. Open the Synaptics TouchPad app once the driver installation is complete.

  2. On the Device Settings page, click Settings.

  3. Customize your preferred touchpad settings on the Properties for Synaptics Touchpad page.

  4. Click OK.

Device Settings.

Properties for Synaptics Touchpad.

Again, none of the synaptics drivers on the link below will work.  The more recent ones give me a popup saying they are not compatible wiith the current OS.  Microsoft has updated the Windows 10 OS to a version called 20H2, which needs an HP BIOS update, and we suspect HP has not provided that update and that's the reason why my drivers are not compatible with 20H2.

(The prior vsn of Windows 10 was 20.14, I believe).

Not sure if there's a warranty issue.  My laptop  is out of warranty.  Does HP not provide updates after the warranty has expired?  I can't seem to get to a phone call or a chat with an HP tech either, and I suspect that IS a warranty issue.  I'd be glad to buy a new warranty, if I could, in order to get to a chat to resolve problems like this...

Thanks!

OK, an automatic update to my laptop came thru last night.  I don't know if it came from Microsoft or HP -- but it fixed the problem!

My HP Spectre 360 has also been having problems with the touch pad since the update to Windows 20H2 version.

The touchpad does not seem to sense my fingers when doing the two finger scroll, which is frustrating. And it does not accept single clicks anymore on the left side of the touchpad. I have to click all over the touchpad multiple times to get it to select or click somewhere. It is very unresponsive now and none of the updates are newer than my current version. I don't know what to do. I've tried the advice given by the rep above. How do I get an automatic system update to magically fix my computer? 😜
