Hi,
I recently installed a replacement touchpad on my laptop, part # L01117-001. I can move the cursor around and open files and programs, but that’s it. No right clicks or two finger scrolling etc.. I’ve gone into touchpad settings and these other options appear to be active but don’t function. I’ve tried prompting windows to update the driver but am told I have the most up to date? Even tried uninstalling and rebooting to let Windows reinstall driver with no luck. I know this isn’t the original touchpad part for my laptop. I was told that part was no longer available and was prompted to get the above named part instead. Is there possibly another driver package I need for this particular touchpad? Thanks.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the touchpad is not working correctly after installing a new touchpad.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
You need to download and install the correct driver for the touchpad for it to function correctly.
I recommend you uninstall the touchpad driver from the device manager and download and install the correct driver from the below link and test.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hello,
While I appreciate the response, I can't say at this point it was helpful. Clicking on the link provided above, I was taken to a page with a host of different drivers. So I clicked on the "Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices" section. In this section there are 3 different Elan touch pad drivers, and 2 different Synaptics drivers. In my Device manager there was an Elan touchpad driver that I uninstalled first (After being told by Windows it was the most recent driver). So my deductive reasoning told me the correct driver must be the most recent Synaptics driver. I downloaded and installed this driver, and now all I can do is move the cursor around and NOTHING else. At least before I could open a file or program but can't even do that now.
Not trying to be a negative Nancy here, but it would be reeeally helpful if someone could point me towards the EXACT driver package I need to install. Thanks.

@jsk60 You may want to check and tell me if you have a Elan or Synaptics touchpad driver, by check the device manager and I'll get you the steps you need, accordingly!
Keep me posted

Hi R-D,
I’m at work and away from my laptop at the moment. I can tell I uninstalled the Elan driver, rebooted- then downloaded and installed the most recent Synaptics driver - rebooted and as stated, the only thing I can do now is move the cursor around and nothing else. I must say though I did not go back into device manager after the install to make sure I actually have the Synaptics driver. I will check when I get home and let you know. Thank you for responding!

Hi,
I have confirmed I did indeed download and install the most recent Synaptics driver for my touchpad.
AGAIN, not trying to be negative here, but I feel I need to say a couple things. I went through the same frustration just trying to identify the correct replacement touch pad I needed. Typing keywords into the HP parts dept. search engine got me NOWHERE. I only discovered the part I needed by coming to this forum. An HP employee directed towards the right part (Thank You KrazyToad!). I was very grateful, but also stated that it shouldn't be this hard to find a replacement part as common as a touch pad. And once again I'm frustrated because now I have the right part, but still lack the proper driver to make it work. HP!...are you listening? I'm just an average customer that invested in your product, but you're making me feel like I need to be an "HP-PHD" if I'm going to dare to expect anything resembling user-friendly support. Not acceptable, and certainly not conducive to me choosing another HP product in the future. Sorry for the rant but darn it, I feel it needed to be said. Thanks for listening.

Hello,
I'd like to apologize for the rant of my previous post, and make clear it WAS NOT directed at any individual on this forum. My frustration is with HP the company, for making what should be rather simple, into something beyond the scope of the average computer user who lacks intimate and detailed knowledge of HP parts, how to properly search for them, and finding drivers that actually make them work. If it were not for the helpful folks on this forum I'd still be at square one looking for the part! OK, I promise I'm done complaining.
The first driver I installed was: Synaptics TouchPad Driver (Windows 10 v1803) 19.5.10.75 Rev.C 91.8 MB Nov 9, 2018.
I chose this driver because the default was an Elan driver that Windows indicated was the most recent. And since it wasn't working properly, I assumed it must be the most recent Synaptics. However, once installed I had zero functionality beyond moving the cursor around the screen.
So I uninstalled the Synaptics, rebooted and installed the most recent Elan driver listed:
ELAN TouchPad Driver (Windows 10 v1803) 18.2.26.3 Rev.D 113.4 MB Jun 8, 2018...Rebooted and now I can open/close programs and files, but still no two-finger scrolling or anything else. So this is my current status. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well it’s going on 3 weeks now since my last posts. Thanks to all of you who are content to just leave me twisting in the wind here. Really people? LOL. Are your HP egos so fragile that when a customer vents a little frustrated constructive criticism with your company, you respond with solidarity in silence? Is there not even one among you with enough patience or maturity to understand my frustration, and make some effort to help? We’ve all experienced failures in customer service at one time or another, and can probably agree that poor CS is more and more becoming the rule, instead of the rare exception it once was. And this sadly, is yet another example of how far the bar has fallen. You’ve lost a long time loyal customer over a driver for a lousy touchpad. Hope it was worth it!
