HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC 14-dy0000 (300N1AV)

Hello,
About 1 years after purchase, the touchpad on my Pavilion x360 14 (14-dy0000) stopped working. It stopped suddenly without any updates.

Starting "device manager" I can see that in the "Human Interface Device (HID)" the device "HID I2C" gives an error "unable to start the device (code 10)" "A request for the HID descriptor failed".

The component is the "Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Controller - A0E8"

The current driver hid i2c version 10.0.22621.2506 is dated 21.06.2006. Trying to update it says that the current driver is already the latest version available.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the device does not change anything and always gives the error.

In "device manager" under the category "Mouse and other pointing devices" I also noticed that the touchpad "ELAN Imput device" has disappeared

I have tried downloading new HP drivers, they are installed correctly but never really used in the "device manager"

I also tried updating the BIOS but nothing, I also noticed that the touchpad does not work in the BIOS either.

I can't really tell if it's a hardware problem or a driver problem because sometimes it starts working again by reinstalling the drivers, but now for weeks it hasn't shown any sign of life.

Another fact is that the same driver is also used by other peripherals and these work correctly.

I have already tried Hard Reset and performed tests on HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. I have also tried to run another OS: Linux live USB (ubuntu), touchpad still not work.

thanks for the help

Hi @emanuelef26 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've done a thorough job troubleshooting the issue with your HP Pavilion x360 touchpad. Since you've tried updating drivers, BIOS, and even tested with another operating system without success, it's possible that the problem could be hardware-related.

Here are a few additional steps you could try:

  • Check for Physical Damage: Ensure there's no physical damage to the touchpad or its connections. Sometimes, even a small amount of debris or dust can cause issues.
  • Re-seat the Touchpad Cable: If you're comfortable, you can try opening up your laptop (if it's not under warranty) and re-seating the touchpad cable. Sometimes, connections can become loose over time.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
