I use a wireless mouse (or a wired mouse) preferably instead of the touchpad. The touchpad has an on/off button to press - White light indicates on and Orange light indicates off. After booting up, I typically turn off the touchpad and use the wireless mouse, however, occasionally when typing I realize my palms are contacting the touchpad and the curser jumps around accordingly. The touch pad is turned off (orange light) but I can control it with a finger, it works like its supposed to as if it's turned on. Any ideas ? I have not downloaded any driver updates or anything to try to solve this as I'm afraid it could actually cause other problems.
Updating the driver is the usual advice given for problems - is that the solution here ? Has anyone else had a similar problem. Most of the touch pad problems I have read about are regarding an erratic touch pad - nothing to do with "on" or "off" problems.

HI @WayneCM, 🙂
Thank you for your inquiry. I will do my best to assist you!
I grasp that you use the on / off button to disable the touchpad. Occasionally you will notice that your palm is touching it and the cursor is jumping around accordingly but the light remains orange, to show it is disabled. Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10). Please review the section on "Opening the ClickPad properties" in figure 4 you will notice there is a button where you can disable the touchpad until you want to re-enable it. Please let me know if this helped.

Thanks for the information, I was not aware of the advanced properties. I have followed your advice and set the properties in the "palm sensitivity delay" area to a full 5 seconds and left the touchpad enabled for use when my other mouse "runs out of battery" etc. Of course, now that I am aware of some of the other properties, I can periodically make changes there when I want to.
I will "accept the solution" and give a "thumbs up".
