Sometime the mouse randomly freezes and both mousepad and external mouse stops responding. Everything else works fine when this happens, and I get no error messages. This is really annoying as it happens 1-2 times a day, and I've only found 2 ways that fixes it (temporarily).
1.) Restart the computer. Sometimes while doing this it gets stuck and wont start again, so I have to hold down the power button for a while (to force shutdown) and then start it again.
2.) Let it fall into deep rest mode (the rest mode where you have to click the power button to wake it, while its not actually turned off). When it wakes the problem somehow has fixed itself
EDIT:
The restart issue happens everytime I restart, not just sometimes or when the problem occurs.
It is not only the mousepad thats stoppes working, the fingerprint scanner also stoppes responing. Suspecting all non-keyboard hardware is affected

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that the touchpad stops responding randomly.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
When was the last time the computer was working fine?
Meanwhile, I recommend you uninstall the touchpad driver and then download and install it from the below link and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.
- Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
- Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
- On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
- When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.
NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.
If you continue facing the issue, then update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
