Hello Support Team,
I am experiencing an issue where my laptop's trackpad randomly becomes less responsive after the laptop has been running for some time (approx 5 mins). It feels like the trackpad is lagging or feels it heavy to move the cursor.
When I first start the laptop, the trackpad works normally. After some time, it becomes less responsive, and after a while, it may start working normally again on its own. The issue does not occur when I use an external mouse.
I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps:
Updated/reinstalled the touchpad drivers
Performed the hardware UEFI diagnostics
Performed a hard reset
However, the issue still persists intermittently.
Could you please help me diagnose whether this is a hardware or software-related issue and advise on the next steps?
Regards,
Sachin

Hi @sachinpnwr,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We appreciate the detailed troubleshooting you've already completed. Since the issue persists after reinstalling the touchpad driver, performing a hard reset, and running the UEFI diagnostics, we'd like to check a few additional items.
First, please ensure that your BIOS is updated to the latest version available for your model from the HP support page: HP OmniBook Ultra 14 inch Laptop Next Gen AI PC 14-fd0000 (A4AD0AV) Software and Driver Downloads | ...
After updating the BIOS, please restart the notebook and test the touchpad again.
Additionally, could you let us know:
- Does the issue occur both on battery power and while connected to AC power?
- Does the lag occur immediately after startup, or only after several minutes of use?
- While the touchpad is lagging, does tapping/clicking also become unresponsive, or is it only the cursor movement that feels slow or heavy?
Please also verify whether any optional driver updates are available through:
- Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates
- HP Support Assistant
Since an external mouse works normally and the issue appears intermittently after the system has been running for a few minutes, updating the BIOS and ensuring all system drivers are current will help determine whether this is a software/firmware-related issue or if further hardware evaluation is required.
Please let us know the BIOS version currently installed and the results after the BIOS update, and we'll be happy to assist further.
Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @sachinpnwr04,
Thank you for the detailed update and screenshots.
Since the touchpad issue occurs on both AC and battery power, starts after about 10–15 minutes, mainly affects cursor movement/dragging, and your BIOS and Windows optional updates are already current, the next step is to test the touchpad outside Windows using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. This helps separate a possible hardware issue from a Windows/software-related issue.
Run the Touchpad Hardware Test
- Shut down the notebook completely.
- Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the Startup Menu appears, press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Select Component Tests.
- Select Mouse/Touchpad.
- Select the available touchpad test and choose Run once.
- Follow the on-screen instructions carefully and test the entire touchpad, including cursor movement, clicking, and dragging when requested.
HP documents this procedure here: HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshoot the touchpad | HP® Support
If the diagnostic reports a failure, please note the Failure ID displayed. HP Hardware Diagnostics can generate a 24-digit Failure ID when a hardware component fails testing.
If the touchpad passes the test, please let us know as well. Since the issue is intermittent and generally appears only after 10–15 minutes of use, that result will help us determine the appropriate next troubleshooting step.
