HP ENVY 360 fc0021na
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a new HP ENVY 360 fc0021narsor to coll

The touchpad soft touch works wine but I can't get the clickable bit to work....e.g. I can't click down on it and then drag the cursor to select text - I can't find anywhere to adjust these settings.

I have read the other posts which say test it by restartting, doing escc and then F2 to get the test menus, but there is not an option in there to test the touchpad.

FWIW the click in the right corner to right click option doesn't work even though it is selected.

Any suggestions please?

Hi @Fred_B_42, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP ENVY 360 fc0021na's trackpad isn't registering physical clicks but touch gestures work fine, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check Windows Touchpad Settings

  1. Go to SettingsDevicesTouchpad (or press Win + I, then search for "Touchpad settings").
  2. Scroll down to "Taps" and ensure "Tap with a single finger to single-click" is enabled.
  3. Scroll to "Press the lower-right corner to right-click" and toggle it off and on.
  4. Try enabling/disabling "Allow taps on the touchpad" and test if clicking starts working.

Update/Reinstall Touchpad Drivers

  1. Right-click Start (Win + X) → Device Manager.
  2. Expand "Human Interface Devices" and "Mice and other pointing devices".
  3. Look for Synaptics, ELAN, or Precision Touchpad driver.
  4. Right-click and choose Update driverSearch automatically.
  5. If that doesn’t help, right-click and choose Uninstall device → Restart your laptop.

Check HP BIOS Settings

  1. Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly at boot to enter BIOS.
  2. Navigate to AdvancedBuilt-in Device Options.
  3. Look for Internal Pointing Device and make sure it’s Enabled.
  4. Save and exit (F10).

Perform a Power Reset

  1. Shut down the laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect the charger and remove any peripherals.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Turn it back on and check if the click works.

Test with an External Mouse

  • If an external mouse works fine, it’s likely a hardware issue with the touchpad mechanism.
  • If the external mouse also has issues clicking, it could be a software or driver-related problem.

HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

Even though the touchpad test is missing, you can try:

  1. Restart and press EscF2 to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  2. Run the Component Tests for input devices.

Perform a Windows 11 Repair

If none of the above work, try:

  1. Windows 11 Reset (Win + I → RecoveryReset this PC).
  2. Select Keep my files (so your personal files remain intact).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
