Hello,

I have a 2023 HP Spectre x360 and my touchpad stopped working. Initially it was at random occasions it did not work and a reboot normally fixed it. Since a few days its completely death.

I tried the diagnose in the BIOS startup and other diagnosis (HP hardware). It does not work. Only my touch screen and wireless mouse work normally.

The driver seen in device manager is also the latest.

Tried the hard reset (push 15sec the ON/OFF button) also without succes.

Any more solutions how to get this fixed?
The laptop is just a few months out of warranty...

Apparently its a known issue: if you look on google you come to different articles:

This is the 2nd hardware failure on a premium laptop. My IR camera is still not working...

Thank you,
Dino

Hi @Dino737,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • When the touchpad stopped working completely, did you notice any error messages or changes in Device Manager (e.g., touchpad disappearing from the list)?
  • Have you recently installed any Windows updates or BIOS updates before the issue?
  • Does the touchpad respond at all in Safe Mode or only remain inactive?

 Suggested Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check Touchpad Settings
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and confirm the touchpad is enabled.
    • Sometimes updates can toggle this setting off.
  2. Uninstall and Reinstall Drivers
    • In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad driver and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your laptop Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
    • If not, download the latest Synaptics/Precision driver from the HP Support website for your model.
  3. BIOS Update
    • Visit HP’s support page for your Spectre x360 and check if a newer BIOS update is available.
    • Updating BIOS can sometimes resolve hardware detection issues.
  4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)
    • Restart and press F2 to enter HP Diagnostics.
    • Run the Component Test > Touchpad to confirm if the hardware is detected.
  5. External Recovery Media (Kindly ensure data is backed up before opting this option)
  • If none of the above works, try booting from a Windows recovery USB to rule out OS corruption.

If the touchpad still fails after these steps, it may unfortunately point to a hardware fault with the touchpad module itself.

I hope this helps.

Its not a software thing.
It works fine until a certain moment, then it begins lagging and sometimes stops completely. Its clearly a bad connection.
I need to put it in for repairs but very disappointing for 2k laptop...
