I have a Laser external DVD drive I want to use to watch DVDs and trying to connect it via a HDMI cable but nothing happens. I am wondering if the HDMI port may be out and not in ? any help appreciated Kind Regards Tony

You're very welcome, Tony.

 

Your DVD drive's USB port is probably USB 2.0.

 

You can use a USB 3 to USB 3 cable if you want, since they would be backward compatible to USB 2.0.

 

Or you can use a USB 2.0 to USB 2.0 cable.

Hi:

 

Yes, your notebook's HDMI port is out only.

 

I take it you can't connect the DVD drive via a USB cable?

 

What I use is a portable USB CD/DVD RW drive and play DVD's via that.

 

This is the one I have...

Then for the DVD playing software I use the free VLC media player from the Microsoft Store or you can download it from the software developer's website.

Hi Paul, thanks for the detailed reply, I suspected as such but I was not sure. My Laser external DVD player does have a USB port. I will give it a go. I will need to get a usb to usb cable. Do you recommend any type e.g. a high speed 3.2 or better. Thanks again. Kind Regards Tony
