Hello Pepsigirl78,

Apologies for the late reply. I've been quite busy.

Have you replaced the motherboard yet?

You can transfer the old RAM. The computer will accept up to 16GB of DDR3-1600-MHz.

In terms of the Windows activation, in addition to checking the document above, please contact Microsoft before the replacement to ensure that nothing goes wrong. Tell them about your upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and your plan to replace the motherboard.

I do want to add that some HP motherboard replacements may be subject to a "motherboard tattoo." This is usually to ensure that recovery media works (which I believe is not your case) but just wanted to let you know.

Motherboard tattooing requires servicing from HP but I'm honestly not too sure about this kind of stuff.

Anyway, good luck.

All the best,

Eddy
