Sir, I have two ram slots in my laptop. My question is can I put 4gb of ram in one slot whilst 8gb of ram in other or is it necessary to have same memory size in both the slots ?
I have rumours that one should have same memory size in all slots else it will not work. For example if I have two slots of ram then I have to insert either (2x4 )or (2x8) and not this (1x4) and (1x8).
Plz aid me this query. Can I use different different memory size ram in ram slots ?

Hi:
If you install compatible memory of different capacities such as a 4 GB chip + an 8 GB chip, it will work just fine.
It is best to add memory in matching capacities only because the memory runs in the better performing dual channel mode.
When you have an empty memory slot, or you install memory in mismatched capacities, the memory runs in the lower performing single channel mode.
