I ran the HP PC hardware diagnostics windows / UEFI earlier this evening. When I ran the UEFI fan speed and thermal test it goes quickly to 40% and then stays / freezes at 40%. Does anyone know what is happening and / or how I can fix this?

Something weird is going on. Earlier I let the UEFI fan speed and thermal test run for about 30 minutes while I did some other things. After when I came back the test was still running and it was still at 40%. I was unable to cancel the test using the ESC key, so I powered down the PC by using the power button. When I restarted the PC I checked the test results. One line for the UEFI fan speed and thermal test it said "Cancelled", which it was. But the next line under cancelled says the UEFI fan speed and thermal test "PASSED." Does anyone have any idea what is going on and if I need to do anything (have the PC checked by a PC repair shop, update drivers (if I can figure out where they are, etc,)

Hi @Hugger1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Update BIOS and Firmware:
- Ensure that your laptop's BIOS is up-to-date as updates may include fixes for hardware compatibility issues.
- Visit the HP Support page, enter your laptop model, and check for any available updates.
Check for Obstructions:
- Ensure that the laptop vents are not obstructed and are clean. Dust accumulation can lead to overheating and affect fan performance.
Perform Hard Reset:
- Turn off your computer.
- Disconnect all external devices, including the AC adapter.
- Remove the battery if it's removable.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect everything and power on the laptop.
Run Diagnostic Tests Again:
- Attempt to rerun the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics by pressing Esc at startup and selecting f2 for diagnostics to check if the issue persists.
HP Support Assistant:
- Use the HP Support Assistant to run diagnostics and check for issues and updates.
Consider External Cooling Solutions:
- If overheating is a consistent issue, consider using a cooling pad to help dissipate heat more effectively.
I hope this helps.
