Hi, I am looking to upgrade

my sons computer and need help! Looking to add  8 G of RAM, and a SSD 

 The ram is pretty straight forward, and will buy another 8G with the same spec as the one in the slot#1

The main reason for the SSD upgrade is his current HD 128G has only 12G of free storage

what I should I do for the SSD?

looking to get him 400/500 G 

do I need an adapter for SSD?

can i add a SSD and keep the Sata in the Laptop? If I have to remove the Sata, what is the best way to move his stuff to the new drive? Move everything to a thumb drive?
