I am trying to connect my Elgato HD60s to my Laptop, however it is having issues connecting through my USB ports. I previously had it connected to the USB 3.0 port on the left side of the computer and it functioned properly, however when I try to plug it in to the 2 USB 3.0 ports on the right side I get a message saying "Game Capture needs to be connected to a USB 3.0 port to fuction properly."

As far as I know all the USB ports on this laptop should be 3.0 ports, so what I want to know is why does only one of my USB ports fuction as a 3.0 port and not the other two?

Welcome to HP support community.

Did you check if  if other devices are getting detected on the USB port?

Meanwhile:

Update BIOS and Chipset drivers

Download and run HP support assistant to update the drivers.

Refer this HP document for the steps to update:- Click here

Let me know if that helps.

I updated evereything and it did not fix the issue. Devices can connect to those other USB ports, but the issue lies with my capture card not detecting the other ports as 3.0 ports.

Try changing the cable and check if that works.

And you can try these steps here:   Unplug the HD60s from your system, reboot, uninstall all elgato software and drivers (Make sure drivers are gone from add/remove programs) then go to your program files folders and look for elgato folders and delete them, reboot, plug back in your HD60s and try a driver reinstall .

That's weird. I started having the exact same issue very recently. All my usb ports are working except the 3.0 one. It provides power to connected devices but no functionality. However, it does work with my phone which I know supports usb 3.0.

I made a post on reddit about it with more detail:

Hello. Today I tried to connect my midi keyboard to my laptop through the usb 3.0 port and was suprised to find out it did not work. I then tried to connect my audio interface and my mouse through the same port. Those failed to connect too. The only thing that does connect is my phone, which I know clearly supports usb 3.0 connectivity because of the cable. In the past I did not have any issues connecting the other devices to the port. The port does supply the devices in power but there is no functionality.

I tried uninstalling the usb port itself, as well as the usb hub (in device manager), restarting the laptop, but to no avail. I also tried to run the Windows usb troubleshooter which tells me "the usb controller is in a failed state or is not installed". Google did not give me a clear answer to fix the latter. I could not find any driver updates either.

I feel like it has something to do with the usb standard (2.0/3.0), though I am not sure. The problem started only recently, but I can not pinpoint a specific date. Perhaps since the Windows update I did on april 3rd?

Anyone that can shine a light on my issue? Thanks in advance.

--------------

Alright so I just checked my bios and unfortunately could not find any options related to usb standards or usb in general.

What I did find is this help page on the HP site (my laptop is an HP) which states the following:

"Some USB 2.0 devices will not work when connected to a USB 3.0 port. To fix this, uninstall the USB 3.0 driver in Device Manager using the following steps."

It tells me to find the Intel usb root hub and uninstall it. This particular device is not there in my device manager. I have a device called "USB-hoofdhub (USB 3.0)" which is Dutch for main hub. Uninstalling this does not fix the issue and it even disconnects all the other usb ports. Then I have another device called "Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft)". Uninstalling this does exactly the same. When looking for drivers I keep getting pointed to this page which contains two outdated versions for my processor (i7-6700HQ).

I'm going to try and undo the latest windows update and see if that helps.

It didn't help. Seeing theres another recent post reporting usb ports not working, perhaps this is caused by a recent Windows update?

Could you check if you are able to connect a USB 3.0 device to the port so we can find out if we are having the same issue?

Just an update and clarifications:

The ports "work" for transfering data and things like that. The problem is that my Capture card is thinking that the ports are USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0. I also did a test on my second computer which has 2 USB 3.0 ports directly connected to the motherboard and 2 which aren't directly on the MB. All 4 3.0 ports on that PC picked up the cap card, so I'd like to rule out the possibility of the cable being faulty. Uninstalling the drivers for the capture card didn't work either, so I wanted to know if there were any drivers for the USB ports specifically that I can look at changing?
