HP Pavilion - 15-ck032nl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello!

I Have a HP Pavilion - 15-ck032nl over which Is installed Windows 10 64bit. I have some external hard disk with usb 3 and when I plug these and I start writing on them they goes intermittently. They  copies for a while, then they stops and transfer speed drops to 0 for some time, then it goes on again, they transfers a bit and stops, and so on.

And at the end of the day copy is not fast as if I plug these hard disk on other computers. The problem is during writing. On reading not problems.

This happens with all 3 USB 3.0 ports of the laptop.

Bios and all the drivers are up to date (according to HP support assistant).

Could you help me solving this issue?

Thank you!

Roberto

... Finally I found the cause: a service called "WD Drive Manager" causes the issue: I unistalled Western Digital software and solved the problem

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I would suggest you turn off the Auto tuning feature and then try to transfer the files.
Follow these steps to turn off Auto-tuning:

  1. Press Windows key + X and select Command Prompt(Admin).
  2. Type “netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled” and press Enter.
  3. Now try to transfer the files and check the data transfer speed.
  4. Again go to Command Prompt(Admin) and type “netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal” and press Enter.
  5. This will turn on the Autotuning again.

And also Install Windows Update and HP Support Assistant Updates:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Next run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I tried to start windows in safe mode and I didn't encounter this problem and the external drive writes without interruptions: it is therefore obvious that it is a software problem: how can I identify the cause?
