I recently got a USB Type C to Type A conveter and when connecting my USB 3.0 External HDD to the USB C port on my laptop, the hard drive is not recognized. The hard drive works with the regular Type A port and the hard drive is recognized correctly when I use the adapter with the thunderbolt port.
Anyone know why this is the case? Maybe the non-thunderbolt type C port doesn't support external drive drives, but both being USB 3.1 I had assumed they would function the same. It's 100% not a hard drive issue and I'm thinking it's not the adapter as it works with the thunderbolt port. So is this normal behaivor or possibly an issue with the laptop?
Thanks

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand you need help connecting an USB 3.1 Type C input with an external HDD,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you know that there are a few things to consider while using USB-TypeC for data transfer?
USB Type-C is a smaller, reversible USB connector that can transmit data, video, audio, and data (USB 3.1) as well as provide charging power to many devices (USB power delivery or PD).
