I have 2022 HP Envy 16 (with 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports). The battery will charge when connected with USB C to my Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock which supplies 100w power. When I connect the laptop to a 100w USB-PD power supply, it does not charge. Thunderbolt uses the USB PD spec. Why is this not working?

What is the brand and what type of power ports does it have?
Which type of port and cable connection are you using to connect the power supply to the notebook?
The Maintenance & Service guide has specifications which show that the notebook is actually meant to be charged with the delivered power adapter connected to the AC Smart Pin adapter plug.

What works:
Lenovo 100w Thunderbolt 3 dock charges the laptop when connected to either of the Thunderbolt 4 ports on the laptop.
What doesn't work:
100w Aukey USD-PD power brick with a single USB C connection. Using 100w spec USB C cable. This doesn't charge the laptop when connected to either of the Thunderbolt 4 ports on the laptop.
I realize I am able to charge the laptop using the supplied AC adapter, that is not what I am asking about.
Evidently, the hardware is able to charge over USB-C. I want to know why it works with my Thunderbolt dock but not a standalone USB PD charger. There is no such thing as a standalone "Thunderbolt charger". Thunderbolt uses USB-PD for power delivery. This should work but it doesn't.

Logic tells me that there is an issue with the 100w Aukey USD-PD power brick since power adapters, even by other manufacturers operate as expected.
You will need to contact the manufacturer of the 100w Aukey USD-PD power brick or the vendor to get an RMA and return it.
The issue seems to be that the smart chip in the Aukey device and the battery controller in the laptop are not having a positive result in communications.
We are not here to provide support for third party devices.
That is beyond the intended scope of this forum.

I can only use the information that you have supplied to troubleshoot and make inferences based on that,
since the following is what you stated.
"

The device is not working with your specific laptop regardless of whether it is working with others. It has nothing to do with software. It could possibly be a firmware issue. Have you done a little research to see if others are having problem with that device?

There is limited info available about this model online. Wanted to come here and see if anyone else had the same behavior and to potentially draw attention to it. Personally, I think it is a firmware issue.
Telling me that I am doing it wrong or that my charger is broken is not helpful or true

I did not say it was broken.
If you try another power bank that has a USB Type-C power output and it does not work with your notebook, but works with others, that may convince you that external power banks are not compatible with your notebook.
