Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Is there any way I can charge my Envy x360 over USB-C? I've tried all sorts of adapters and powerbanks, but can't get it to work. What are the requirements? I have a 20.000 mAh powerbank and would really like to be able charge my laptop when I'm on the road.

USB-C Gen 1 specs

The USB Type-C Specification 1.0 was published by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) and was finalized in August 2014. It was developed at roughly the same time as the USB 3.1 specification.

A device that implements USB-C does not necessarily implement USB 3.1, USB Power Delivery, or Alternate Mode

That is hardware things, you have to change motherboard (if available for your machine) to get USB-C with PD.

What is your Envy x360 ? Do(es) itS USB-C port(s) support Power Delivery ? If not, you can't use its USB-C port(s) to charge your computer. Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:

Please do NOT post its Serial number (s/n).

I own a HP Envy x360 15-bp130nd. I don't know if it supports Power Delivery, could you point me to the right documentation?

@ThomasIAm

Your machine only has

   1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge); 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (1 HP Sleep and Charge); 1 HDMI v2.0a; 1 headphone/microphone combo

Its specs

The USB-C port does not support Power Delivery.  HP Sleep and Charge simply means you can charge portable deivices (phones, tablets) when it sleeps.

So, there's no way at all to charge the laptop itself over type C?

The main issue is that, if you are using a either a powerbrick which has a USB-A output it has a 5V output and the x360 needs 19.2V.  This means that it will not get the charge required to actually power the notebook. You will need to charge from a device which is outputting 19.2V like a powerbrick designed for this purpose or from a wall plug which has a AC-->DC converter at the required voltage. I know its way past the date this is useful to you, but maybe it will help other.

Cheers

Well if it doesn't support power delivery, it isn't going to matter how much voltage you pump through it right?

I was able to charge my envy with a normal phone charger (usbc) however only when the laptop is switched off. It took a few hours but luckily it charged

Interesting. What Envy exactly did this work on? I've heard some types can charge over USB-C while others can't. I tried a few different cables and chargers but this sadly didn't work for my particular laptop.
