According to the specs, I should have USB-C charging, but I bought a 65W charger online and it doesn't charge the machine?

The laptop detects the charger, but the charge icon says "Not charging".

Defective charger, or defective laptop?

Any help appreciated.

This is how the port is described:

1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.2, HP Sleep and Charge)

The "sleep and charge" is perhaps an unfortunate choice of terms. It does not mean the port allows a charge coming into the computer to charge its battery. It means you can still charge your cell phone or other external usb device even when the laptop is in sleep mode. HP laptops that are capable of being charged up by way of the USB-C port are generally delivered with a USB-C charger. If your laptop comes with a barrel adapter, in every case I have seen, it cannot be charged by way of the USB-C port.

Generally HP laptops that can accept USB charging into the laptop have USB-C ports that are specifically labeled as Thunderbolt 3 ports and that is not the case with this model.

Sorry you spent the money to buy a USB-C charger you cannot use.

Thanks!

Does Power Delivery not mean that it can be charged?

No big deal really, the HP charger is actually the same as my own HP work laptop so I have spares to hand! 🙂

Here's what I bought. Gotta send it back!

You want the opposite of Power Delivery you want Power Receiving. Power Delivery means it charges out not in.
