As I search on the web, I am getting conflicting information on whether this particular laptop can be charged via USB-C. Some say it cannot, some say it has to be off, some say it has to be a certain threshold on wattage. Does anyone out there have any definitive answers on this particular model? I have tried with GaN chargers up to 100W with no apparent luck, despite the USB-C port having a little lightning bolt on it, suggesting that it should be doable.

@scorpio4712000, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Victus 15!
I understand the confusion surrounding USB-C charging compatibility for the Victus by HP 15.6" Gaming Laptop (15-fa1000) (771S7AV). I’d be happy to provide clarification.
USB-C Charging Capability for This Model
- The Victus 15-fa1000 series features a USB-C port with Power Delivery (PD) support, but it is primarily designed for data transfer and display output rather than primary charging.
- While some HP laptops support USB-C charging, most gaming models (including this one) require a barrel-type AC adapter due to their higher power demands.
- Even though the USB-C port has a lightning bolt icon, this typically indicates DisplayPort functionality rather than full USB-C charging support.
Why Your 100W GaN Charger May Not Work
- The Victus 15-fa1000 requires a higher wattage than 100W (typically 150W or more) via its dedicated barrel-type charging port.
- If USB-C charging is supported at all, it may only work when the laptop is powered off or in sleep mode, but not for active usage.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
