3 months ago, I had a set-up that consisted of two monitors plugged into an HP USB-C dock G4, plugged into my ZBook 15 via the provided USB-C cable. It's always been buggy, but for the most part it worked fine. I left work for a while, and when I came back, tried the same dock that I used a few months ago, but didn't work at all outside of the power indicator LED turning on. My Zbook would not recognize it. So, I got an exact replacement from my work's IT dept, which works, but causes BSOD(STOP: 0x7E, nvlddmkm.sys) if it was plugged in while waking from sleep mode. This has caused a lot of lost data when I forget to unplug it after walking away, which is often. Now, on top of that, it only works for one monitor at a time, and switches my main display to the external monitor. I'd be better off plugging directly into my computer.
I tried installing drivers from the HP website, though my device manager still tells me "driver not found" for the dock. I found the issue in the advisory pages about Citrix Receiver being installed and causing BSOD on this specific combination of devices, so I uninstalled it and it did not fix the problem. I think I tried a few other things but this saga has lasted several weeks and I'm not sure what to do next. My ability to install external software is limited due to my computer being managed by my organization. I had to get special permissions just to attempt the driver install.
I'm mostly just amazed that a combination of two devices from the same manufacturer could be so buggy to the extent that it would cause regular BSOD like this.

HP Support Community,
I'm still having this issue. The blue screens stopped for a while I think after I'd installed a previous version of the driver, but the dock still wasn't really working properly. I now have a specific order of getting the dock to work, or else my monitors won't receive a signal: Unplug the power and monitors. Plug in the power. Wait for the "Charging not supported" tooltip. Plug in monitors. Repeat. Every day. Every time I plug in at my desk. Every time I wake my laptop from sleep.
Yesterday, the blue screens returned. If I close my laptop forget to unplug the dock, my laptop will either blue screen (same error- STOP: 0x7E) or black screen (dead-lock) upon resume. Either way, I have to restart and lose all unsaved data.
Please help.
Thanks.
