HP Spectre 13-w023dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently update recommended BIOS and windows updates.

Noticed battery was low so plugged in Laptop to find that charging switches repeatedly between plugged in charging to on battery. Light next to USB C charging ports is amber and flashes on and off.  Sometimes slowly and sometimes faster.
maybe dependent of how charged the battery gets - haven’t figured out pattern yet.  If left off and plugged in the light will eventually go to solid white. When I boot pc it comes on fine but is only charged to 30 or 40% even after full days of having it plugged in.   Battery drains quickly and the amber flashing light returns almost immediately.  Pc switches between power save mode and on AC power constantly.  So screen will dim and brighten.

have tried to restore to older windows update state with no improvement.

uninstalled battery devices with no improvement.

Turned off the setting to turn off usb devices when power is low with no improvement.

pressed power button with battery removed with no improvement.

Pc won’t charge over 50% so can’t try to revert to older BIOS.

pulled battery and tried to power just on AC and pc tried to boot but since the pc is constantly switching between recognizing that it is on ac power and not - it gets to a couple seconds into the boot and then dies.  When I put battery back in it recovers but problem with the constant switch between on power and battery continues.

Any ideas how to get battery up over 50% so I can try the bios update/rollback?

I reviewed your post and I understand that the battery is not getting charged correctly.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you try updating the BIOS using a USB flash drive and check if it helps.

Refer to the below article for detailed steps.

I updated the BIOS from F.50 to version F.51.

No improvement.

Is there an older version of Bios i should revert to?  I saw someone post that a version in the 40s was stable.

The amber light is on for 5 seconds and off for 1 second. This cycle repeats whether pc is on or off as long as the USB C power adapter is connected.
