Hi @Dianeadn,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Check Power Settings:

  • In some cases, specific power settings may affect charging behavior:
    • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery.
    • Check for any settings related to USB power delivery, and ensure the power-saving mode is not interfering with charging.

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC):

  • For some HP laptops, resetting the SMC can help with power-related issues:
    • Shut down your laptop.
    • Disconnect the charger and any other peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
    • Reconnect the charger and power on the laptop.

Check for Charging Port Functionality:

  • Test if the USB-C port works for data transfer or video output. If these functions work but charging does not, the issue is likely specific to the power delivery circuit.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use HP's built-in diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues related to the charging ports:
    • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
    • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
    • Run the Component Tests and select tests related to the USB ports and battery.

Battery Check:

  • Verify that the battery itself is not the issue:
    • Go to HP Support Assistant, run a battery check, and see if it reports any faults or abnormal behavior.

Try Charging with the Laptop Off:

  • Shut down your laptop completely and try charging it while it's turned off. This can sometimes bypass any software-related issues that might be interfering with charging.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with the USB-C ports or the internal power delivery system. In this case, contact HP Phone Support for repair options.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Dianeadn,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If your HP Spectre x360 16-inch 2-in-1 (16-f2000) is not charging via its USB-C ports, despite using compatible cords and wattage, there could be several reasons for this issue. Let's go through some potential causes and troubleshooting steps:

Check USB-C Port Compatibility:

  • Not all USB-C ports on laptops are capable of power delivery (PD) for charging. Ensure you're using a USB-C port that supports charging on your Spectre x360. Typically, there should be an icon near the USB-C port indicating charging capability.

Inspect the Charging Cable and Adapter:

  • Even if the cable and adapter are compatible, ensure they are in good working condition:
    • Try using a different USB-C cable and adapter that are confirmed to support the required wattage for your device (typically 65W or higher for the Spectre x360).
    • Check for any visible damage or loose connections.

Use the Original Charger:

  • If possible, use the original HP USB-C charger that came with your Spectre x360. Some third-party chargers, even if rated correctly, may not always work due to compatibility issues.

Test Both USB-C Ports:

  • Your laptop likely has more than one USB-C port capable of charging. Test all available USB-C ports to see if the issue persists across all of them.

Check for Port Obstructions or Debris:

  • Inspect the USB-C ports on your laptop for any dust, debris, or obstructions that might be preventing a proper connection. Gently clean the port with compressed air or a soft brush.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • An outdated BIOS or driver might cause charging issues. Ensure that your BIOS and USB-C port drivers are up to date:
    • Go to the HP Support page for your model, download the latest BIOS update, chipset drivers, and any other updates related to power management or USB-C ports.
    • Install these updates, restart your laptop, and test charging again.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
