HP ZBook Firefly 15.6 inch G8 Mobile Workstation PC IDS Base Model

Hello.  I have an HP ZBook Firefly G8 15.6" wiith Intel graphics and need a hub or dock with dual diplayports for connecting a couple of olders 1080P LCD monitors.  I'm very confused as to what will work with this.

There are two Thunderbolt 4 ports on this laptop, do I need a Thunderbolt 4 or 3 hub/dock or can I use a USB-C hub/dock?  My primary concern is connecting two monitors and hopefully powering the laptop from the hub or dock.

Does this laptop support running a 1080P display using a USB-C cable or does the cable need to be Thunderbolt 3/4?    Do docks or hubs need drivers?  Thanks.

Page 1 of the manual says

  • Supports maximum of three independent displays when on the HP USB-C Dock G5; Max resolution = 4 K @ 30 Hz (DisplayPort 1 and DisplayPort 2)
  • Supports maximum of three independent displays when on the HP Thunderbolt™ Dock 120 W G2 (through USB-C); Max resolution = 4 K @ 30 Hz (DisplayPort 1 and DisplayPort 2)

Regards.

Good thing it wasn't on page 1 of the manual 🙂

Funny thing is I asked HP Tech Support if the HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G2 was compatible and they said "no" then suggested I look at the HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G4.  Since I'm looking on ebay and sellers may not accept returns I'm being cautious.  Seems as though the G2, G4 and G5 are all compatible.

Thanks again.
