Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This laptop has this specification for the USB C port:  1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate).

I recently ordered a USB C multiport which includes an HDMI port.   I observed while I connect the HDMI cable to this multihub, there is no display output on my second monitor.   All USB dongles connected stop working while the HDMI cable is connected.  Once I remove the HDMI cable from this hub the USB's start working.

Is this USB Port C not meant to be connected to a HDMI connection for use as in a second monitor.  (I do have a HDMI port on this computer, but as I am having to connect and disconnect several times daily I felt this may 'wear out' the HDMI port on my expensive laptop (nearly $2000 laptop) and considered getting a hub).

Many thanks in advance

@StabiloBossz

It clearly says 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) that means no video signal.

Your can use USB-A hub. What is your hub ? Does it support USB-A host connection ?

Thank you Banhien.

In my limited understanding, I assumed data transfer would also include video signal.

The hub I purchased now on its way back to the supplier is https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B086FNTB6J?ref_=pe_2361882_295287342_301_E_DDE_dt_   (HEYMIX USB C Adapter Type c hub,HMDI Port, PD Charging, USB 3.0 Ports, Micro Sd/SD Card Reader, Gigabit Ethernet, for New MacBook 12, MacBook Pro, Dell XPS 13, Google Chromebook)

The other ports on my laptop are:

 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (Data Transfer Only); 1 AC smart pin; 1 HDMI 1.4; 1 headphone/microphone combo.

These two other ports being "data transfer only", I guess then the only option is to use the 1 HDMI port.

Thanks again
