Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am using a Spectre x360, which is about 4 years old. Within the past four months or so, I have had recurring issues when connecting USB devices to my computer. It seems to be an erratic phenomenon. What happens is that I connect a USB device, which has been working in the past, and suddenly I get the notification that the device is not recognized. Sometimes if I am lucky, after unplugging it and re-plugging it in several times (I have tried to use the single USB port directly, as well as using an external USB hub and moving the device between different ports on the hub) the device will suddenly be recognized again. But more often than not, once the issue starts, the computer will mostly fail to recognize the device again.

The first time this happened, I thought it might have been an issue with the USB device itself (a MIDI keyboard). However, I eventually (randomly) got it to work again, and have had no further issues with this device being recognized. Now, however, my computer will not recognize my USB mouse, which I have been using for months with no problems. It seems like all of the drivers are up to date (and so is my system), yet the device manager still shows the error "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)." I have tried all of the trouble shooting methods shown on this page (https://softwarekeep.com/help-center/how-to-fix-device-descriptor-request-failed-unknown-usb-device-...), but nothing has worked. I have restarted my computer many times, tried uninstalling and re-installing the device drivers, etc...but nothing seems to work. Because this has been an issue with multiple USB devices (I also briefly had trouble with an external hard drive as well), I believe this is an issue with my laptop itself, rather than the USB devices or any specific drivers. Yet, I don't believe it is an issue with the USB port itself, as other USB devices will connect fine, while the issue seems to only affect certain USB devices at a time. Is this simply a sign of my computer getting old, or is there a solution?

@ibelongia

I reviewed your post and I understand that the USB ports on the computer are not working correctly.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

What is the product number of your computer?

I recommend you update the BIOS and the chipset driver from the below link and check if it helps.

If you continue facing the issue, then run a test on the USB port following the steps in below article and this will confirm whether it is a hardware or a software issue.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
