I have this strange problem with my laptop where a USB Mouse, on some occasions, stops working. First we hear the sound which we get after we have removed a hardware from the computer. Then, suddenly the pointer stops moving and also the mouse's left and right buttons don't work.

The mouse's lights are all lit up and it also is detected in Device Manager as below image:

The only way to solve this problem is to restart my laptop and it starts working again.

Hi @kdb13,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with the USB mouse on your HP Notebook - 15g-Dr1000tx. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist better:

  • Have you tried to connect the mouse to a different port?
  • What brand is your USB mouse?

While you respond to that, Let's go ahead and update the BIOS for your PC.

  • Once the BIOS is updated, restart the PC and check
  • If the issue persists then update Windows OS as well
  • select Start  > Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Update, and then select Check for updates. If updates are available, install them.

If the issue persists then please try an alternate USB mouse to check if that works fine. If the alternate mouse works fine then it's not an issue with the notebook PC.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I tried connecting the mouse to different ports and also tried a different mouse. But the problem still persists. It works after restarting the PC (not shutting down but restarting).

I've also updated my BIOS to latest version.

@kdb13,

Thank you for your response, I really appreciate your efforts in trying to troubleshoot.

As you have already tried all the possible troubleshooting, it could possibly be an issue with the operating system.

So I would recommend you to re-install the operating system once using the HP Cloud Recovery tool.

Note: Make sure you backup all your data before reinstalling the Operating System.

Refer to this document: HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7)

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
