I have bought a new HP mouse that comes with a USB receiver. It is important to note that my previous USB receiver was used for both my HP keyboard and mouse. However, my old mouse stopped working, which is why I bought this new HP mouse. The issue is that my keyboard cannot connect to the new USB receiver. I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this.

Hi @aa455,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for explaining the situation clearly:

HP USB receivers are not universal; each receiver is paired at the factory to its specific device (mouse or keyboard). That means:

  • Your new HP mouse’s receiver will only work with that mouse.
  • Your old keyboard was paired to the previous receiver and cannot automatically connect to the new one.

Why this happens

HP uses pre-paired dongles for wireless peripherals to ensure security and performance. Unlike Bluetooth, these receivers don’t support multi-device pairing or re-pairing by the user.

Solutions

  1. Check if your keyboard supports Bluetooth
    • If yes, you can connect it directly via Bluetooth and keep using the new mouse with its receiver.

  2. Replace with a matching combo
    • If you want one receiver for both devices, you’ll need an HP keyboard and mouse combo (sold as a set). These come pre-paired to a single receiver.

  3. Contact HP Support for pairing options
    • Some HP models allow re-pairing at an authorized service center, but this is rare.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
