Hello everyone,
We’ve purchased the following setup:
Notebook: HP ZBook Power 15.6-inch G10 A Mobile Workstation (Part No. 7E6L1EAV)
Monitors: 2 × HP E27u G5 (Part No. 6N4D3AA)
According to the specs, the E27u G5 monitor provides up to 15W charging via the USB-C/DisplayPort-in port.
Our reseller assured us that the monitor would be able to charge the laptop through that connection, however, that’s not the case. Even when the laptop is powered off, it refuses to charge via the monitors.
We’re now looking to purchase a new monitor, specifically something like the HP Series 7 Pro Thunderbolt 4 27-inch QHD (Part No. 8J9E6A5).
Could someone clarify which specifications or features I should look for to ensure that a monitor will actually charge the ZBook Power G10 A through USB-C/Thunderbolt?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hello DimitrisSc.
This is a peer-to-peer forum meaning that any answers you get will be from users of HP products, or in some cases HP personnel -but only expressing their own views. Official HP position on this matter is something along the lines of "if no USB-C charger is sold for your model, no guarantee of full USB-C charging compatibility is given".
Documentation for this model is as follows:
MANUAL, SpecsSheet, QuickspecsPDF and Datasheet. The manual on page 4 mentions only old fashioned barrel chargers. Page 6 confirms that the Thunderbolt port can be used to charge battery. On the specs sheet the Thunderbolt port is listed as TB4 with PD capabilties. Chargers are again only standard 120 or 150W power supplies. Quickspecs PDF also mention TB4 (page 1), Power Delivery available (page 14), the same chargers (page 13). Pretty much the same thing on the Datasheet (pages 3 and 4).
Another source of information is the Notebookcheck review. In this case the Austrians at Notebookcheck.net used a 135W charger from Lenovo and it worked (Power Consumption section of the review) but in the final "Verdict" part complained that HP had not implemented "full USB-C charging".
So, now that we have established that this model can charge its battery based on HP specs and tests on review sites (even though HP has no USB-C charger for this series), just how much wattage is needed for charging it? Unfortunately this answer usually comes from users here that try different chargers and fail or...succeed. What we do know is that these power hungry ZBooks usually need the full 100W to charge. I think that whatever monitor you go for should provide at least this much.....
