Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a brand new Spectre x360. I am trying to use an external keyboard and mouse so I have a USB2 multi-port hub so I can use them both.  I also have a USBC multi-port hub and I have the same problem.

The problem is with the multi-port hub -  I get the error message in Device Manager.

***Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)***

The keyboard and mouse each work when they are plugged in directly to the USB port, so they aren't the problem.

Other important information

-sometimes it seems to work for a short time, like 30-60s then it fails.

- it's a brand new laptop

- my husband has the exact same laptop, bought 7 months ago and it works fine on his

- I have tried uninstalling drivers and restarting multiple times.

- I have even spoken to tech support at the vendor, who couldn't fix it so they arranged a return and replacement. This is the same problem happening with the replacement laptop.

This is a brand new laptop out of the box and it works *less* well than the same model bought 7 months ago.

This is an HP problem with this model. HP has introduced some software incompatibility problem. Is there a fix?

Make sure that all driver and firmware updates have been applied. Are these powered or non-powered hubs?

I've done all the updates and uninstalled and reinstalled drivers many times.

The hubs are not powered. They work fine on my husbands laptop which is the same model bought a few months ago, so it's something wrong with this version of the laptop.
