At normal conditions, my USB sockets is working without any problem. But when I try to play system-intensive games like RDR2 or Valorant, my only Left USB socket is shutting down after 10-15 sec (depends to the game) until I exit from the game. I checked Windows USB settings from "Device Manager" and "Windows Settings" and there aren't any void. My BIOS is up-to-date too. What shall I do? Is there someone had same problem with me?

Hi @YusufAvcu,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the USB port not working!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I can imagine how frustrating this issue must be, it’s like the laptop just decides to quit on you when you need it the most.
Based on the details you’ve provided, here are a few things we can try to get to the bottom of the issue:
1. Power Management Settings
Windows can sometimes automatically disable USB ports for power-saving purposes, especially under heavy load from system-intensive games. Let's disable this feature to see if it’s causing the issue.
- Open Device Manager and expand the “Universal Serial Bus Controllers” section.
- Right-click on the “USB Root Hub” or any entry that says "Hub," and select Properties.
- In the Power Management tab, uncheck the box that says, “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
- Repeat this for all USB Root Hubs listed.
2. Update USB Drivers
Even if your BIOS is up-to-date, outdated or faulty drivers can sometimes cause issues with USB ports under high load. Let’s make sure you’re running the latest drivers:
- Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
- Right-click on each USB entry and select Update Driver.
- You can also check HP’s official website or the HP Support Assistant to ensure you have the latest drivers for your system.
3. Test USB Ports with External Devices
Plug an external device (like a mouse or keyboard) into both the left and right USB ports while not running any games. Does the left USB port still cut out after a while? If it does, this could indicate a physical hardware issue with the USB port itself.
4. Check for Overheating
System-intensive games can put a lot of pressure on your laptop, and if it’s overheating, it might be shutting down certain components (like USB ports) as a safeguard. If the temperatures are getting too high, consider cleaning the vents, improving ventilation, or using a cooling pad.
5. Test in Clean Boot Mode
To rule out third-party software interfering with USB functionality, boot your system in Clean Boot Mode and test the games again:
- Press "Windows + R" and type "msconfig" > Press Enter.
- In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab and check the box to Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable All.
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager to disable any unnecessary startup apps.
- Restart your system and test the games again.
I know this is frustrating, but I’m confident we’ll get this sorted out! Let me know how it goes or if you need further guidance on any of the steps.
We’ve got your back!
Take care and have an amazing day!
