HP Elitebook 840 G7
Microsoft Windows 11

Good Morning,

I have an HP Elitebook 840 g7 notebook that I haven't used for several weeks and now I find I have a problem with using USB flash drives in either of the notebook's USB ports.

When plugged in, both the USB Wi-Fi mouse and the USB phone link work fine, but when a memory stick is plugged in, there is no sign of a USB Drive (D) in File Explorer, only "This PC" and "Windows", meaning that the flash drive cannot be used.  But, opening "Disk Drives" in Device Manager, the flash drive is listed and, under "properties" declares that the "device is working properly".

I have tried several new and empty flash drives in the Elitebook without success, but all these memory sticks work fine in my other HP laptop which has the same driver installed - Microsoft Windows 10.0.22621.2506 - 21/06/2006.

I've tried updating the driver but with the message "Best driver already installed". Is it possible the driver is corrupted in some way or is there another solution?

Very many thanks for any advice, Geoff.
